Start with the symptom
Check whether the laptop is slow all the time or only on battery, during games, while charging, after waking from sleep, or when many browser tabs are open. Compare plugged-in and battery performance
Windows and laptop firmware often use different power limits on battery. If performance is good while plugged in but poor on battery, that may be intentional. A maximum-performance profile can drain the battery quickly and increase heat, so use it only when it matches what you are trying to accomplish.
Keep the cooling system in the loop
Blocked vents, dust, a soft surface under the laptop, or an aging fan can cause thermal throttling. If temperatures rise and clock speeds fall under load, reducing background work may help, but the real fix may be physical cooling maintenance.
Watch memory pressure
Many laptops have 8 GB of RAM or use integrated graphics that share system memory. Heavy browser use, launchers, chat apps, games, and creative software can exhaust available memory. Close what you do not need and consider a memory upgrade if the model supports it.
Keep enough SSD space free
A nearly full system drive can make updates and temporary work harder. Clean disposable temporary files, uninstall applications you no longer use, and move large personal files if necessary. Avoid aggressive cleaners that remove unknown application data.
Use hardware-aware tuning, not desktop assumptions
